The Washington Post published two tables showing the kinds of weapons men and women use based on 195,578 murder cases with 209,000 dead and 240,000 killers for the years 1999-2012. Click on the tables to enlarge.
Men
Men prefer to commit homicide overwhelmingly by guns (67%) with knives (12%). No other method is above 10%.
Women
One might suppose that women would like to use poison; however, the most common methods are guns (39%), knives (23%), beating(12%) and others (12%).
